The UK government is running a promotion to help struggling restaurants. In that, customers get up to a 50% discount from their meals on certain days in August. One restaurateur claimed the program was “helping people to learn to go out again.”

Relatedly, analysis from JPMorgan Chase “found the level of in-person spending in restaurants three weeks ago was the strongest predictor of where new cases would emerge. Similarly, higher spending in supermarkets indicated a slower spread, suggesting shoppers in those regions may be living more cautiously.”
